melissa didn't and doesn't do heroin, the bass player that died of overdose was kristen pfaff. melissa took her place in the band because of billy corgan's recommendation.

Then replaced D'arcy, the bassist for the Smashing Pumpkins...then came out with her owe record, Auf der Maur, which Paz (orginal bassist from a perfect circle), James Iha, and Josh Homme contributed to.
