yeah it is amazing.

cloning is cool because if you lose a body part or organ, you can have a new one cloned to replace it. like if you lose a lung, they can grow you a new one. recently a functioning human heart was "grown," in a test tube. it was on the news. beating and shit. inside the test tube. outside of a human body.

you can also like... make a clone army, thats kinda cool. sort of. i guess?

but other than that I think most people only think about cloning in a vain/materialistic kind of way. like cloning your dead pet or whatever.

i only look towards cloning for the medical side of things. it's when stem cells can be cloned that it will have acheived it's true purpose.

i'm sure lancelot encore is lovely, but $150,000 could be put to better use. people who want to spend large sums of money on animal-related projects should use their funds to help animals who have already been born - animals who are hungry, injured, or homeless. i don't understand how anyone could think a cloned pet will be the same as the original; you can't clone a soul or even a personality. it just makes no sense. go to a shelter and adopt.

that 155,000 wasn't just for the dog trust me. it was an auction remember.. only so much was used for the dog - the rest will be research money - so to me they've supported research. that's just how i'm viewing this - i understand the whole 'why clone a dog it isn't the same, adopt, save etc' because i wouldn't clone a dog, there is no point. But these people were like "heck, why not? we can have another lancelot dog and give money to research".
While we may not perceive that dog as being the same, they may. if they believe enough that it's lancelot to them IT IS lancelot. It's a bit like Lars and the Real Girl.

This doesn't have much to do with the topic at hand, but it reminded me of this strange phenomenon. They have found a species of jellyfish that have identical DNA.

I love jellyfish.

Using jellyfish DNA, some people created a monkey. It glows in the dark and they named it anD (pronounced Andy) which is DNA backwards.
