what the fuck... what the [i:1b1w97ur]fuck[/i:1b1w97ur]?

[url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_nutricula:1b1w97ur]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_nutricula[/url:1b1w97ur]

It grows up... then it UN-GROWS back into a little baby jellyfish, grows up again, then un-grows all over again... it just keeps doing it and NEVER DIES.

There's this lake that is full of jellyfish and they lost their ability to sting because there are no predators in that lake.

i love that video, i find the colour of that lake and the buttery yellow of the jellyfish so soothing for some reason. Atleast now i know why i see people swimming in that swarm of jellyfish and don't seem fazed, i'm thinking " yo fuckas gonna get stuuuuuuuuuuung!" but now i know they won't. ta mabel.

plus, isn't evolution and adaptation the best? yes.

their numbers can only increase!! they could overtake the world!

There are several things that are biologically immortal. Like bacteria.

Also; I heart jellyfish.

i liked it, too. it was very peaceful. but i got a little nervous about forty-five seconds in. how deep is that fucking lake?! i couldn't remember which direction was the surface! not that it matters when one is watching footage on youtube...but it was a little unnerving. jellyfish are sweet, if a little creepy.
there are ten million jellyfish living in the lake. and not only is it devoid of predators, there is no prey either. those jellyfish feed by photosynthesis! like immortal, water-dwelling, mobile plants. oh, fuck.

yeh but bacteria and stuff doesn't count! I loved the video of the jellies too, I'm quite scared of them even if they have lots their stings though.

I think other than the fact that jellies can sting, Baywatch gave me a fear of jellyfish. There was an episode with a man of war and since then I've been terrified. I went to the beach (you don't know how amazingly rare that is for a British person, unless you're British, especially cuz the beach was in this country and nice, but not that sunny obviously) and I don't really like swimming in the sea either so I wouldn't even go waist high but there were jellyfish there. My mates brave enough to go far out saw a huuuge one, like dinner plate size right near them so I was even more wary and then I saw a smaller one right near me, legged it and never went back in the water! Infact I think the one right near me was dead, but I didn't care! /rambling on sorry!

I reaaally reeeaaally love swimming but I get so far and get freaked out, espeically when seaweed brushes past! Once when I went to Spain I went the furthest out in the sea I'd ever been and I was only like 14, and when I was swimming back I kept getting pushed back by the current! I was absolutly shitting it and I looked round and theres this spanish woman all jolly just bobbing around with no effort and further out! I don't remember the last time i went swimming though, too self concious now. I'm sorry I always just waffle on.

Okay, so this question has NOTHING to do with the topic. Looking at jellyfish got me thinking about other sea animals like sharks. I dont like sharks, and I dont like snakes. That got me thinking about snakes, and I was wondering, if anyones ever seen the movie Anaconda with those gigantic snakes, are there ACTUALLY snakes that big?? I'd probably cry if i ever saw one lol

EW Snakes are disgusting. Have you guys ever found those little weird clear jellyfish whilst swimming in the ocean that you can pick up and it looks like you're just holding a little puddle of water? They don't sting you or anything, they're just little puddles of clear slime.

Those anacondas are extremely exaggerated, the longest an average anaconda can get is like around 25 feet I think. They're not even the longest snakes. The longest snake would be a Reticulated Python, which can almost get up to 30 feet.

They are strong enough to kill a human and they CAN eat people but I don't think they ever really do...

I really like snakes but wouldn't keep one as a pet.

They don't creep me out, when I was in school we went on a field trip to some museum. A guy there had a tarantula and a snake, he offered to let us hold them, nobody wanted to fuck with the tarantula, and I was the only kid there that held the snake.

The only reason I wouldn't keep a snake as a pet is because they're escape artists, if you don't keep them in a good tank it's deuces. Taking care of one would just be such a fucking hassle. Having to maintain proper temperature and humidity. Just too much shit for me to worry about, I know I would get lazy and would end up neglecting it. It's best if I don't get one. lol.

I'm not much of a pet person, other than Hedgehogs, I love them. Wish I could get one.

I've always liked having pets, but now that I'm a parent, I don't want one. Not because I'd have to clean up after it, but because I don't want to have to explain to my kid why her pet died. And I don't want to be the one to find it dead. I know that's a bit of a morbid reason not to get a pet...

Whenever one of my pets died I was never really very sad... Except for once. One time. Couple of years ago.

One pet. The first time I was sad. :< The only time...

Just once. Just when Snuggles died.

And if it's too much, you can just say it ran away. My cousin got her daughter a puppy. It died and when the child asked where it was, my cousin said "he ran away" and the kid was sad but not as sad as if it had died... Which it did lol. She got her another puppy some time after that, when THAT one died she told her it was stolen lol. This was a very young child though.

If you do get a pet, start with something small that nobody gives a shit about. Like my first pet was a Hermit crab. I had it for awhile, then it died one night. The next day I found it and I was like "oh well. ugly fuck." I was maybe disappointed, but not SAD. Not like when... Snuggles...

Then my parents got me a gerbil, it bit me once so I started to not like it. When it died I didn't really care. Or miss it. I don't think I even named it.

I have always been absolutely heartbroken whenever a pet has died. It took me several years to not cry whenever I thought about one of my dogs. He wasn't even my dog, he was my sister's, but I took care of him more than she did.

I cried like a baby when snuggles WAS KILLED, I posted it on here when it happened and nobody payed any attention to it except jordy, she said it made her cry too. I don't even have any pictures of snuggles. :< Her daughter lives next door with my mom and dad though.

That's horrible. Hank (my sister's dog) was hit by a car, and whoever did it kept going. I'm not sure if they saw him or not because he was little and it was dark.

Thanks. I'm sorry about your dog too. This is why I don't want a pet. Not only do they get old fast, but people don't care if they hit them with their cars.

i gave you my condolences andrew, i'm sure of it.

I can't remember that far back, all I remember is posting about it, then wandering away for a day or two and coming back and finding that nobody had replied and I was like :<

That's horrible. Hank (my sister's dog) was hit by a car, and whoever did it kept going. I'm not sure if they saw him or not because he was little and it was dark.

Even if he didn't see it, he would've felt it right?? Or a least heard it?

Yeah, probably. But like I said, he was a very small dog. He could have thought it was a rabbit or a raccoon or something. I don't think it's any more acceptable to keep going if you hit one of those types of animal, but most people don't seem to be bothered by it.

I love my brother-in-law but he's a hick at heart and he'll do things like go out of his way to run over an animal crossing the road.

My dad drives down a wooded road on his way to work, there are lots of ponds and trees and it's kind of a bit of a marshy area. There are tons of turtles and he always finds one trying to cross the road. When he sees one he stops, picks it up, and carries it to the other side (or brings it home for a day or two) and sets it down off the road so it doesn't get run over.

Once a pretty big turtle had ALMOST made it all the way across the road. My dad pulled over and stopped, got out and went over to the turtle. Right before he went to pick it up some guy came along, swerved from one side of the road to the other, almost hit my dad, RAN OVER THE TURTLE, then went back to the other side of the road.

What a fag.

They're so darling. Except for the one time he brought home a huge alligator snapping turtle. It's shell was over a foot long, it was pissed off too.It was pretty awesome.

We live by a lake, so we see turtles all the time in the summer. One year we had 3 snapping turtles in our yard. I was pretty young and really scared. I'll post pictures of them when I get my scanner working.

They don't as much as they did a few years ago, because more people have built houses around us, but we still see them every now and then. They're always hanging around the dock though, paddling their cute little feet.
