Okay, so this question has NOTHING to do with the topic. Looking at jellyfish got me thinking about other sea animals like sharks. I dont like sharks, and I dont like snakes. That got me thinking about snakes, and I was wondering, if anyones ever seen the movie Anaconda with those gigantic snakes, are there ACTUALLY snakes that big?? I'd probably cry if i ever saw one lol
[/quote:39hop223]

there's this disturbing video of an anaconda eating backwards this huge animal... I think it was a tapir or something
it scares the hell out of me

[quote="meatfilledpastry":39hop223]
I love my brother-in-law but he's a hick at heart and he'll do things like go out of his way to run over an animal crossing the road.

My dad drives down a wooded road on his way to work, there are lots of ponds and trees and it's kind of a bit of a marshy area. There are tons of turtles and he always finds one trying to cross the road. When he sees one he stops, picks it up, and carries it to the other side (or brings it home for a day or two) and sets it down off the road so it doesn't get run over.

Once a pretty big turtle had ALMOST made it all the way across the road. My dad pulled over and stopped, got out and went over to the turtle. Right before he went to pick it up some guy came along, swerved from one side of the road to the other, almost hit my dad, RAN OVER THE TURTLE, then went back to the other side of the road.

What a fag.
[/quote:39hop223]

I just hate knowing that people do such things deliberately
sick fuckers.

the man o' war is often, and most erroneously, mistaken for a jellyfish. it is in fact a syphonophore. made up of four living organisms.

anyway! i like the fact it was named after portuguese warships.

regardless of it's species or genus or whatever the fuck, man o' war's are close enough to jellyfish, and creepy enough altogether, to scare the shit out of me.

lol that's what wikipedia said! It said they're also called bluebottles and they have a powerful sting that leave a red mark and can cause extreme pain for up to an hour.

Oh god it's so fucking disgusting.

A manowar is not an animal, but a colony of animals. Each part- the top bubble, each tentacle- are separate animals with different jobs.

it's not the most leathal jellyfish either, since it isn't one apparently (I r lurning). The deadliest one is one the size of thumbnail in Austrailian waters.

About pets: I have a dog and had two gold fish, a budgie and a mouse. I didn't cry at the others dying. Although I nearly cried when I found Sweet Pea (the mouse). I knew he was going to die though because his fur had gone really dull. I'm not quite sure what happened to the budgie, but she did something to her leg and I worry that maybe I did something but I can't recall and the vet never said anything about it. I think it was old age.

I once saw a dog get ran over :( my dad was there and wonderfully sensitive 'that will just get put down now', thanks, I was like 7! I have always been really skittish if I let the dog off her lead, I only let her off now if my mum is there. I don't want to think about her going. It's gonna be doubly hard when she goes because I work with dogs. I won't ever be able to not have a pet dog, the house feels empty when she goes to the groomers or where ever.

Do you mean box jellyfish? They're pretty f'ing nasty, think they're the deadliest in the world but they grow bigger than a thumbnail.

Even though we seem to have all the nasty jellyfish I'm still more scared of sharks. Always have been, always will.

Sorry to everyone whose lost pets recently, or even a while ago. We had to put my dog down last year, even now when I think about her I get tears in the eyes.

mm must have got facts mixed up with the thumb nail size jellyfish

I've always been a wuss when it comes to the ocean...been swimming in the sea a few times but it takes me a while to get say...up to my knees and it doesn't take much to make me get out. We're going to Australia next year...I will not be going in the sea.

You live in the UK?
What's frightening about your ocean?

My problem with swimming in a sea is that my parents conveniently forgot to teach me to swim, so I'm afraid of sinking. I also dislike cold water and Finland is not exactly the warmest place on this planet.

The way I do it is I always make sure there's multiple people around me and between me and the open ocean, that way if anything's gonna get me it's gonna get them first. I'm going to Queensland next week for a holiday, gonna suck it up and go swimming. Might as well. Will use my friends as shields if it comes to that, lol.

I hate f'ing seaweed.

Brisbane, or Sydney or Adelaide or.... Tasmania

the boy is a huge cricket fan so where ever the England team goes we'll go for about a month. I will be really pissed off if we don't go to Sydney, who goes to Australia and doesn't go to Sydney! It'd be like you coming over here and coming to my town rather then London!

Kinda want to go to Melbourne just to see what it's like cuz of Mrs Homme of course and I'd love to see Ayers rock but think we're gonna be pretty far from them. As long as I can hold a koala bear (at a zoo not a wild one, I like having eyes) and don't have to watch cricket I don't mind!

Ohk cool. You won't have to worry about crocs.

Haha yeah I guess for someone from another country Sydney is the place to go.

I thought they'd play cricket in Melbourne at the MCG. Don't follow cricket much though so I don't know. Yeah you won't be anywhere near Ayers Rock unless you went way out of your way. In the middle of f'ing nowhere. I wanna go there too just haven't ever been anywhere close to it, just in the northern part of the Northern Territory. One day I guess. Gets kinda depressing when people from overseas have been to more places around your own country than you have.

I only ever have a fear of drop bears when I'm drunk, alcohol brings out the fear.

Damn I hoped it'd be a bit warmer. Whatever, I'll take the few degrees extra over here any day. Don't plan on swimming though, only going to when we swim with the dolphins at Sea World. Better not f'ing rain that day.

Ohk. December's usually ok, every couple of years around Christmas it's been cooler and cloudy, can hope for that. Otherwise, nothing will beat air con and slurpees.

Pfft! Like gangs and guns aren't everywhere! You've already got pedos and rapers too. And shifty-eyed people are NO worse than drop bears.

That sill leaves yowies, yowie-whowies, and bunyips!

Ohk. December's usually ok, every couple of years around Christmas it's been cooler and cloudy, can hope for that. Otherwise, nothing will beat air con and slurpees.

see this is the thing even if it is hot, you know how to deal with it there, no point having air con here for 2 weeks of hot weather, just stand in the fridge! A bus I was on the other day had only two windows you could open!! anyways i'll just be in the pool all day anyway (well not between the hours of 12 - 3 pm!), that's how i always get burnt abroad.

Might be going to Melbourne according to the boy. I'm getting excited now, gonna book it soon I think, can't wait to go, will be so easy to find my way round, you can just ask people and don't have to speak really loud english or really bad foreigny.

if i get mugged in australia and they pull out a knife it will be very hard not to say 'that's not a knife!'

Coolio.

Just got back from Queensland last night. Over tired and sick from sitting in a car with 3 sick friends for 12 hours. Yuuuuuuuuuck. But good times were had. Back to reality <_<
