well my friend is 18, she has a myspace and is friends with tons of guys. she desperately wants a boyfriend, and i tell her myspace isn't the ideal place to find love...i told her to go out and meet people. but she would rather chat with random guys on the 'net.

she met one guy who is 28, who lives across the country, with a wife, a girlfriend, and 2 kids!!! she would talk to him everyday and ran up her family phone bill to $1100 dollars..(along with talking to other people)

she just recently met this other guy who's 25, who lives in the same state as her, but still far. she told me that he's her boyfriend now :rolleyes: ...and i laughed. she's taking it seriously, and plans to meet up with this guy. i don't know what to tell her....i'm worried she'll get herself into something that she can't get out of.

any advice to "smack some sense" into a friend without actually slapping them?

Tough question. Ummm, sometimes that kind of thing works out but she needs to be smart about the kind of people she's talking to. The Internet is full of dipshits and liars. You should make sure she doesn't run off and meet this guy by herself if she actually does.

yes, once you've seen one, you've seen all like 50 of 'em.

I gotta say, I can think of at least 10 people I know who have had several relationships from meeting people on line, 2 even got married, but I've never once heard of any danger involved. Yes I do realize that it is totally possible to run into trouble doing it but you just have to use extreme caution wheather you meet someone new on line, at a bar, at school or anywhere else. Good luck to your friend but I think she'll be fine. You gotta live a little, you know? Sometimes in life you gotta look at it like big risk big reward.
