do NOT feed your child under one year of age honey. why? because it causes botulism. what is botulism?

"Botulism is an illness caused by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It is an anaerobic bacteria that lives in tight, airless spaces, like in home canned foods and honey. It makes a toxin called botulism toxin that clips SNARE proteins at the neuromuscular junction, so that Acetylcholine cannot be released and the muscle does not work, causing a flaccid paralysis and eventually death by lack of oxygen because the muscles of breathing are paralyzed. The toxin is the most powerful toxin to humans, but ironically we use it a lot in medicine, as it is the active agent in BoTox (Botulism Toxin). BoTox paralyzes the muscles that accentuate wrinkles."

Never bottle-feed your kids absinthe.

Its a simple one, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know about it.

Just a little FYI for you guys. They say that the Baby Einstein DVDs do the opposite of their intentions and are actually bad for your baby because they overstimulate them. And, really, it makes sense because when we watch TV, we pretty much zone out and process nothing with our mouths hanging open and drool streaming down our chins.

I think after 2-3 years old...it would be ok in moderation. If your kid watches one spongebob episode it probably wouldnt be a bad thing.

Yeh totally. My niece, on the other hand, watches A LOT of movies. She's almost four now and I'm actually concerned with her speech articulation. She's definitely behind in that area.

I probably watched a lot of television before the age of 6. I can't tell if it has done any damage to me.

I'm pretty sure all my quirks were developed by coping with who I was surrounded with as I grew up.

"Red 40 is a commonly used food coloring dye added to a variety of products. While it may make food esthetically pleasing in appearance, it can cause a negative reaction in those who consume it.

Children are most often the ones who have sensitivity to red 40, whether or not their parents have realized it or not. Reactions include temper tantrums, hyperactivity, aggressive behavior, uncontrollable crying and screaming, kicking, nervousness, dizziness, inability to concentrate and sit still among other findings. Physically you may get frequent headaches or migraines, upset stomach and feel ill after ingesting this additive. Often when Red 40 is eliminated from the child's diet a remarkable change is noticed immediately.

Many times consumable products include both high amounts of sugar as well as red #40 so it can be hard to determine if the child's behavior or reaction is because of the sugar or because of the food dye. Both can cause similar results but it is clear that red 40 can be a culprit on it's own as similar results occur when sugar is not present. Children who have been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) generally have significant improvements of their behavior and ability to concentrate when artificial additives such as red food dye is removed from their diet. Red 40 can also affect adults; it is a common trigger for migraines. It can also cause an upset stomach and make you feel uncomfortable and jittery."

I don't get why they add colouring to Coca-Cola.. Is brown supposed to be pretty?

There are so many creepy chemical processes being done everyday; first something is removed with the aid of a chemical, then later the same bloody thing is artificially added to the product in the form of another chemical. What the fuck really.

I think it's awesome that they add red40 to children's liquid tylenol. Totally.

And I noticed at Target the dried fruit they sell there has added coloring. It's dried fruit! Why the fuck would it need artificial coloring?!

I don't know what kind of bananas you're eating, but all the dehydrated banana fruit chips I've eaten (including the ones my mom made with her own fruit dehydrator) were normal color. And certainly not dyed red with Red40.

I worked at Vitamin World for over a year (many long stories attached to that one!), and it's crazy what people have their kids do. Despite there being a number on the back of the bottle, one couple came back into the store, and asked us if their kid was going to be okay because they let him eat around 12 gummy vitamins (also full sugar, and Red 40 among other things despite it being a decent vitamin). I swear if I wasn't on the clock I would have clocked them! Zinc, and other good vitamins/supplements can be detrimental to a child's health in large quantities! The kid was MAYBE 2, so it was 1 vitamin, not friggin' 12. I should have done a case study on the kid after they left. One of my coworkers tried to ease their fear of damaging their offspring while I was trying to instill the fact that they did one of the dumbest things possible. What next, letting the kid drink some drain-o?

Do you know what is really scary? Johnson's baby shampoo has formadehyde in it...yeah, the same thing they use for embalming dead people. I was reading [url=http://hubpages.com/hub/Choosing-Natural-Products:3e2ut07i]this[/url:3e2ut07i] the other day and was totally shocked.

I knew about the honey thing, that's one of those things they're really big on telling you at the pediatrician's office. But baby soap? Geez, they give it to you at the hospital. I guess obviously it's not enough to do any drastic obvious damage, but think about how that must effect people over time!

@sadistic angel, that is so scary that parents would let their kids have that many vitamins!
